  Faculty/Post-Doc Position Opening At Nanjing University

  The College of Environmental Science and Engineering at the Nanjing University(南京大学)is one of the premier colleges in research and teaching in China (hjxy.nju.edu.cn).  The State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse is equipped with state-of-the-art equipments.  The brand new building in Xianlin campus (see left) provides over 30,000 m2 lab-space for the college.  The college is seeking highly-motivated, productive faculty/post-doc members in the following disciplines:

  Environmental Plant and/or Microbial Biology Training in plant-environment interactions including plant tolerance to abiotic stress, and plant-microbial interactions.  Be versed with modern molecular biology tools including recombinant DNA, microarray technology, transgenic technology, protein biochemistry and enzymology.  Specialty skills in functional genomics, proteomics or metabolomics are plus.

  GIS and Land Resources Training in the following areas are preferable: 1) statistical and geostatistical methods in quantitative soil-landscape analysis to determine spatial distribution, variability and behavior of soil contaminants; 2) mechanistics and stochastic spatial models to assess environmental quality; 3) application of GIS in data analysis. 

  Environmental Hydrology/Organic Contaminants Understanding the impacts of hydrologic processes over spatial and temporal scales on the fate and transport of organic contaminants in the environment.  Areas of research include surface, watershed and wetland hydrology.  Training in hydrology, organic chemistry, contaminant transport, and modeling are highly desirable.

  Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in related areas with solid publication track record.  Strong communication skill including the ability to write manuscripts and proposals is desirable.  Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to foster interdisciplinary, collaborative research is plus.

  Salary and housing allowance: Competitive salary, housing allowance, and initial startup fun are offered based on qualifications.  The incumbent will join a program with an established professor and 2 other faculty members, with total 4 faculty members to form a synergetic research team. 

  Graduate research assistantship available at University of Florida in the areas of soil environmental chemistry of trace metals, specifically biogeochemistry of trace metals in soils, water, plants and wastes:

o   Phytoremediation of arsenic contaminated soils and water

o   Lead biogeochemistry in shooting range soils
