RESEARCH FOCUS
Ecosystem services provided by multi-functional watersheds/landscapes are affected by the type, intensity, and spatial arrangement of land use as well as underlying environmental landscape properties (e.g. soils, topography, land cover and geology). Research interests are focused on the application of statistical/geostatistical methods for quantitative soil-landscape analysis, with the purpose of analyzing the spatial distribution and variability of soils, and their relationships with environmental landscape properties (pedometrics - digital soil mapping):
• Assessment of soil carbon and carbon sequestration potential to mitigate climate warming
• Soil sensing and remote sensing applications
• 3D reconstruction and scientific visualizations of soil-landscapes
Other research interests include the development of quantitative spatially-explicit models to assess environmental quality (environmetrics) and mechanistic water quality simulation modeling:
• Geographic information systems (GIS)
• Geospatial assessment of biogeochemical properties across larger landscapes
• Modeling water flux and biogeochemical processes
(nitrogen, phosphorus)
