DEPARTMENTAL RESEARCH AREAS
Soil/Landscape Analysis & Pedometrics
Carbon Dynamics and Modeling
Soil-Water-Environmental Interactions

RESEARCH INTERESTS

  • Soil-landscape modeling / pedometrics: The application of statistical and geostatistical methods for quantitative soil-landscape analysis, with the purpose of analyzing the spatial distribution, variability and behavior of soil properties
  • Environmetrics: Development of mechanistics and stochastic/deterministic spatially-explicit models to assess environmental quality
  • Geographic information systems (GIS) and landscape dynamics
  • Soil and remote sensing applications to assess soil and water quality

SPECIFIC RESEARCH INTERESTS

  • Investigate scaling behavior of soil and environmental properties and processes across various spatial and temporal scales
  • Understand carbon dynamics and model terrestrial carbon patterns and processes
  • Investigate spatially‐explicit functional relationships between human‐induced stressors (such as land use and climate change) and environmental landscape factors (soil, climate, land use / land cover, terrain, geology, and hydrology)
  • Gain insight into biophysical feedbacks (soil‐vegetation‐water‐atmosphere interactions) and carbon dynamics modulating sequestration and/or losses of carbon in mixed upland/aquatic ecosystems
  • Analyze phosphorus and nitrogen behavior and patterns in aquatic and terrestrial systems
