Pollution Prevention

It is important to prevent pollution before it reaches our waterbodies. UF administration, students, faculty and staff are involved in several activities to prevent water pollution.

Student Involvement

The UF Clean Water campaign is always looking for students, faculty and staff who are committed to making a difference for campus waterbodies.

NPDES Permit

The UF National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit was adopted in September 2003.

Campus Master Plan

Recommendations for campus natural areas were documented for the 2005-2015 Master Plan.

Water Quality Monitoring

Every month volunteers sample water at 15 sites across campus to collect data on UF's creeks, ponds and lakes.

Best Management Practices

UF follows recommendations known as Best Management Practices (BMPs) to prevent water pollution.

Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary

UF as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, the first university to achieve this status, and one of 607 such sanctuaries in the world.
