Florida Wetlands Extension Program

Protection and Preservation

Protecting Florida wetlands is a group effort.

The federal and state governments create legislation that guards wetlands from harmful activity. In this section you will learn about how the Clean Water Act prevents developers from draining and building on wetlands.

Scientists and engineers work to restore wetlands to their original, pre-disturbance conditions. They also collect data and run tests to compare current and historical wetland conditions. This section discusses techniques for improving wetland quality.

People like you volunteer their time and skills across the state to spread awareness about environmental issues and to make a difference in their local public policy. Lean how you can help protect Florida's wetlands.
