Experiential Learning

Experiential learning emphasizes hands-on, practical experiences to apply knowledge and skills learned, encouraging students to participate in direct experiences such as internships, fieldwork, simulations, projects, or other immersive activities help to apply theoretical concepts to real-world contexts. This approach not only enhances understanding but also fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Experiential learning recognizes the importance of reflection on these experiences to gain deeper insights and draw meaningful connections between theory and practice. It promotes a dynamic and interactive learning environment that better prepares students for the complexities of the professional world by bridging the gap between theory and application.

Many of the  American Association of Colleges and Universities' High Impact Practices (HIPs) for undergraduate education, which have been found to be of significant value to students, involve experiential learning, including internships, undergraduate research, and service/community based learning.
